Overview

M/S XPRS is a Viking Line-owned cruise ferry, built in 2007. It operates the route between Estonia and Finland once per day. The length of the ferry is 185 meters, it carries 2500 passengers and 240 cars. It runs at a max. speed of 25 knots.

eMarine’s solution for M/S XPRS consists of optimization and automatization of HVAC, pump control, and engine room ventilation. A control system was also installed to increase the ease of use and focus more on comfort and energy saving. All work performed during regular operations with no need to disrupt or dry dock the vessel.

Our solutions

CONTROL SYSTEM
New control systems for HVAC, pumps, and Engine Room Ventilation were installed. The control system was specifically adapted for MS XPRS, focusing on energy consumption, comfort, and ease of use.

HVAC

HVAC units supplied in Cabin-, Public-, and Service areas were installed with 24 drives, each with their own individual regulation by temperature, Co2 or/and Humidity. Recirculation Dampers and VVX were included in the steering to achieve the most economical drift while increasing comfort. This is all monitored by an automated control system focusing on board climate and energy performance.

ENGINE ROOM VENTILATION
Two drives were installed for the thruster room and sewage room. A new control system programmed to regulate temperature and differential pressure was installed in order to always keep the lowest energy consumption while keeping the climate in the engine room areas within required values. The rest of fans already equipped with VFDs were included in the control system

PUMPS
Drives were installed for Re-Heat. Differential pressure controlled. Pumps have been integrated into the new control system,  the rest of the pumps are installed as stand-alone solutions.
