Overview
M/S Cinderella is a Viking Line owned Cruise Ship, built in 1986. It operates the route between Stockholm and the Åland Islands on a daily basis. The vessel has a length of 191 meters, carries 2700 passengers, 480 cars and has a max. speed of 21,5 knots.
eMarine’s solution for M/S Cinderella consists of optimization and automatization of HVAC, pump control, and engine room ventilation. A control system was also programmed for this solution to increase the ease of use, and to more efficiently target comfort and energy saving. All work was performed during regular operations with no need to disrupt or dry dock the vessel.
Our solution
CONTROL SYSTEM
Existing control system was reprogrammed and optimized. The system automates the cooling water system with heat recovery, engine room pumps and HVAC, including RW. The control system was adapted specifically for MS Cinderella and targets energy consumption, comfort and ease of use.
HVAC
Reprogramming of the control systems with focus on board climate and energy performance were done. For the HVAC units, an installation of drives were made for cabin-, public-, and service-units each with their own individual regulation by temperature, CO2 or/and Humidity. Preheating valves for each unit were installed and controlled. Recirculation Dampers and installation of RW with VFD and new controls were included in the steering to achieve the most economical operation while increasing the comfort. The control cabinets were rebuilt and air flows were balanced in the cabins.
The airflow of the two channel system consisting of exhaust- and supply air was balanced in the cabins. This is all monitored by an automated control system focusing on comfort and energy efficiency.
PUMPS
AC SW, pre- and re-heating pumps have been installed as stand-alone solutions with temperature and pressure control.
HEAT RECOVERY
The original heat recovery system for HVAC units with RW ihas been upgraded with new motors and VFDs, and new RWs were installed in the units lacking them.
The calculated pay-off time for the whole project is XX years.
